Class 8, CBSE NCERT Mathematics Solution
Exercise 2.1 (Linear Equations in One Variable)
(page 23, 24)
Q1: Solve: x – 2 = 7
Solution:
x − 2 = 7
Adding 2 to both sides or transposing 2 to R.H.S, we obtain
x = 7 + 2 = 9
Q2: Solve: y + 3 = 10
Solution:
y + 3 = 10
Subtracting 3 from both sides we obtain,
y + 3 – 3 = 10 – 3
Or, y = 7
Q3: 6 = z + 2
Solution: (do it yourself)
Q4: Solve:
Solution:
Subtracting 3/7 from both sides or transposing 3/7 to R.H.S, we get
Q5: 6x = 12
Solution:
6x = 12
Dividing both sides by 6, we obtain
x = 12/6 = 2
Q6: Solve:
Solution:
(Multiply both sides by 5)
Q7: Solve:
Solution:
Q9: 7x – 9 = 16
Solution:
7x – 9 + 9 = 16 + 9 (adding 9 both sides)
or, x = 25/7
Q10: Solve: 14y − 8 = 13
Solution:
14y − 8 = 13
or, 14y = 13 + 8
or, 14y = 21
or, dividing both sides by 14, we get
Q11: Solve: 17 + 6p = 9
Solution:
17 + 6p = 9
Subtracting 17 from both sides or transposing 17 to R.H.S, we obtain
6p = 9 − 17
or, 6p = −8
Q12: Solve:
Solution:
Subtracting 1 from both sides, we get
very knowledgible
